Though the Ukraine war continues in its third year, we continue to see how God can take the darkest of experiences and bring new light and life to hurting people. He alone makes all things new! Recently, SGA-supported Pastor Oleg shared with us the story of Tetiana, a widow who came to his church seeking aid.
How grateful we are that Oleg and his church members were equipped to help meet Tetiana’s physical and spiritual needs thanks to the generosity of friends like you! By providing urgently-needed aid, a door has now been opened to minister to this dear woman as God is drawing her closer to Himself.
This is Tetiana. Ten to fifteen years ago, Tetiana was a successful businesswoman who had several shops for rent. Her life, as she saw it, was “perfect.” She thought she was a good person because she always helped people. She had a husband and son, a large apartment with luxurious renovations, and a job she enjoyed.
But after 2014, everything went completely wrong: her business began to collapse, her husband became ill, and her relationship with her son worsened. When the full-scale invasion began, her husband died. Amidst stress and depression, Tetiana developed acute inflammation of the facial nerve, which led to speech impairment, partial facial paralysis, and visual impairment. All her financial savings were spent on treatment, but there was no improvement. Doctors offered new treatment protocols each time, but none of them worked. The son lived his own life, and then he was drafted into the Armed Forces. Now he is at war, and the fear for his life makes Tetiana’s health even worse.
All her former friends have moved far away and are not very interested in her life, not to mention her health problems. The only one left was her neighbor Lyudmila, who also lived alone and helped Tetiana as much as she could. Lyudmila brought Tetiana to church so that she could get help.
We invited Tetiana to attend Sunday services. Later she joined the Bible study group. Tetiana cannot read now because her eyesight is not focused due to her illness, and she cannot speak because her speech is very affected. But she felt a thirst for the Word of God, listens attentively, tries to answer questions, and enjoys the singing during worship. Tetyana started attending a women’s prayer group, and together with the ladies she prays for the soldiers and for her son.
We support her as much as we can, often listen to her, her words are broken, it is difficult to understand her, but she is changing before our eyes with God’s grace. We pray for her and her son that the Lord would grant her repentance and be born again, and also grant her healing, both physical and spiritual.
In a time of great uncertainty, God is bringing help, healing, and hope to the people of Ukraine through SGA-supported pastors, churches, a seminary, and SGA-supported Compassion Ministry. Be a part of God’s incredible work with your generosity and prayer support.
Your gift of compassion helps struggling people with emergency aid that generally includes Scripture materials, food, and hygiene supplies.
