Look at these images of devastation in one city in war-torn Ukraine. Can anything prepare you to see your home and your community destroyed and nearly unrecognizable? “The pain of war breaks the heart,” SGA-supported Pastor Mikhail says in his recent report. But God is equipping this brave pastor and his church members to share the love of Christ in the midst of bombing and great danger where they live.
Read from Pastor Mikhail’s recent report:
Fourteen days of war. The pain of war breaks the heart, especially when you see a whole block of residential buildings destroyed by aerial bombs. On the night of March 7-8, explosions destroyed 22 houses and claimed the lives of civilians, 19 adults and 3 children. The surrounded city, like many other settlements, is periodically fired upon and bombed by invaders. The [church] is constantly in prayer and continues to serve people by preaching in word and deed.
From the very beginning of the attack on our country and our border area, we began to help people with a word of encouragement, prayer and food distribution. At first, together with local businessmen, we distributed locally produced eggs and chickens. And later we began to buy products and make food bags. Since food supplies are blocked due to the blown-up bridge and the control of roads by the occupiers, there is less food in the city every day. We try to distribute food bags to everyone who needs. And also we try to help our territorial defense and just the inhabitants of the city.
On March 8 and 9, green corridors were organized and many wanted to leave, we tried to help bring people to buses for evacuation. Today, March 9, we helped to load the children of [an orphanage] into the Red Cross transport. Pray for us. For my family. For the safety and emotional well-being. Even now, as I write this message, we are hearing bomb explosions that are being dropped on our city.
In a time of great fear and uncertainty, God is bringing help, healing, and hope to the people of Ukraine through SGA-supported churches and Compassion Ministry. Be a part of God’s incredible work with your generosity and prayer support.
Your gift of compassion helps struggling people with emergency aid that generally includes food for 10 days, medicine, warm clothing, shoes, and Scripture materials.
